Recognizing unemployment as a pressing challenge among young people in Nigeria, the Nigerian Youth Parliament, Bayelsa Central Senatorial District, has launched the “Skill the Youth, Kill Poverty Initiative 1.0.” This initiative aims to empower the youth by providing them with sustainable skills in solar energy installation and maintenance.

Tackling Unemployment Through Skill Development

Unemployment remains a major issue affecting young people, particularly in Bayelsa Central Senatorial District. While government jobs are limited due to resource constraints and population growth, it has become imperative to equip young individuals with income-generating skills to foster self-reliance, reduce crime, and alleviate poverty.

In alignment with the Youth Development and Diversification of Education towards Innovation and Technology Vision under the A.S.S.U.R.E.D Prosperity Agenda of His Excellency, Sen. Douye Diri, Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, this initiative is designed to train young people to become job creators rather than job seekers.

Why Solar Energy?

Following extensive research, the project team identified solar power energy technology as a high-demand skill in Bayelsa State. Many homes and businesses are transitioning to renewable energy sources, yet there is a scarcity of trained solar energy technicians. This training program aims to bridge that gap by producing competent professionals who can meet the growing demand for solar energy solutions.

Training Details

✔️ Duration: 3 Months

✔️ Location: Yenagoa, Bayelsa State

✔️ Eligibility:

• Must be between 20-30 years old

• Must be a native of Kolokuma Opokuma, Yenagoa, or Southern Ijaw Local Government Area

• Must be resident in Yenagoa

Limited Slots Available – Only 10 Candidates!

Due to the cost-intensive nature of the training, only 10 highly motivated and passionate youths will be selected for the free program. The training will cover both theoretical knowledge and practical fieldwork, ensuring that participants gain hands-on experience in solar energy installation and maintenance.

How to Apply

Interested candidates from the listed local government areas should contact:

📞 Jeremiah Ekubo – 09063741485

📞 Precious Abariso – 07035649541

Call for Sponsors and Partners

To expand the program’s impact, the organizers are seeking sponsorship and partnerships from individuals, businesses, and organizations interested in youth empowerment and renewable energy development.

A Step Towards a Brighter Future

With this initiative, the Nigerian Youth Parliament, Bayelsa Central Senatorial District, is taking a bold step toward equipping young people with valuable skills, reducing unemployment, and contributing to Bayelsa’s growing solar energy sector. The “Skill the Youth, Kill Poverty Initiative” is not just a training program—it’s a movement to transform lives, create opportunities, and build a self-reliant generation.
